Animal people ("nom dajan") are on the humanoid species of the human genus. They live on the Continent and Wüdju and have diversified in many animalistic subspecies. In contrast to earth people, animal people possess certain animal-like features that aid their survival in natural environments. As a physiologically diverse group, some can be rather humanoid while others resemble anthropomorphic animals. Each individual can be classified as a certain subspecies. However, this doesn't mean that everyone in this group contains the same characteristics.
As humanoid beings, animal people possess the general structure of a human: a torso, two legs, two arms and a head. Different than their relatives, they are equipped with mostly mammal-like attributes (Amphibians are the only exception!). Even if they resemble extant animals, animal people only have these resembling features due to the same environment of their cognates. This means, that normally categories like "Cats" and "Dogs" are scientifically incorrect. They are still used nonetheless. Of course, all the subspecies of animal people are therefore not descendants of those animals, but superficially very similar.
A list of possible characteristics:
On top of the animalistic features many animal people possess, there are more physical characteristics of note. Eye color often depends on the archetype/category. In general, northern animal people have brighter eyes and a higher chance of heterochromia. Concerning skin color, northern animal people have pale skin, while southern have dark skin. Their height and size depends on the archetype as well. Some can grow much larger than the average human, while others might be a few heads smaller.
